Harmony and Compassion - Music in Buddhist Ritual is a three-day online conference and performance series featuring scholars, educators, composers, lamas, monks, and musicians demonstrating the ways that music is used in Buddhist practice, from the most traditional to the most contemporary of forms. Day one of the conference will focus on the role of music in Buddhist society, past and present. How is music used in ceremonial rituals, what is the place of music in the temple, and how do the many varied Buddhist communities in Asia incorporate musical rituals into the culture?
The opening event of the conference will feature four speakers, listed below, via Zoom Webinar. After a break, the conference will continue with a video premiere of a sampling of ceremonial musical offerings.
