Since China opened to the world, the US and China have developed an extraordinary scientific partnership, which helped China rise to the forefront of global science, expanded America's contribution to science, and has advanced knowledge in key areas of human well-being.
Current political concerns endanger the collaboration. The US fears that China is "stealing" intellectual property to dominate science and technology critical to national security while China complains of US bullying against its rise to world superpower.
Please join Dr. Richard Freeman (Herbert Ascherman Professor of Economics, Harvard; Research Associate, NBER) & Ms. Qingnan Xie (PhD candidate, Nanjing University of Science and Technology) to discuss: what are the facts about the US-China scientific partnership? How has the partnership impacted the world, and each of the partners? And what are the possible consequences of a breakdown in the partnership?
