In 2020, as COVID-19 swept the globe, award-winning documentary filmmakers Yung Chang and Hao Wu each co-directed landmark films exploring the outbreak in Wuhan, China. Backed by an A-list production team, including Oscar-winning producer Donna Gigliotti (Hidden Figures, Shakespeare in Love), and actor star Donnie Yen (Yip Man, Mulan), Wuhan! Wuhan! Is co-directed by Gong Cheng and Yung Chang. Following 36 hours in the lives of several individuals during the outbreak, Wuhan! Wuhan! offers a rare glimpse into the early days of coronavirus outbreak in China. Hao Wu’s 76 Days, co-directed by Weixi Chen and anonymous, focuses on a broader time frame, offering glimpses into the entire 76 day lockdown through the eyes of patients and medical workers. This event will bring two of the most exciting documentary filmmakers of their generation, in dialogue with Michael Berry (CCS Director and translator of Wuhan Diary), to discuss their experience documenting the early stage of a global pandemic.
